Suspect Nabbed In Attempted Abduction Of 13-Year-Old Girl In Uniondale

A suspect has been apprehended for the attempted alleged abduction of a 13-year-old girl in Uniondale, Nassau County Police announced on Thursday morning, July 4.

The girl was walking home from Lawrence Road Middle School at 50 Lawrence Road in Hempstead on Tuesday, July 2 at 12:20 p.m. when she reportedly noticed an unknown man standing in the parking lot, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

As she approached her home, the man allegedly chased her and grabbed her from behind, putting his hand over her mouth, according to police.

The girl victim struggled and was able to momentarily escape his grasp before he reportedly grabbed her again, trying to drag her behind parked cars, said police.

She reportedly again fought off the man and ran into her home, said police.

The man went away on foot towards Nassau Road, according to Nassau County Police.

Police announced Jarrod James, 24, of Gormley Avenue in Roosevelt, has been arrested for the above crime.

James has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree assault, second-degree attempted kidnapping criminal obstruction of breathing/blood circulation. He will be arraigned when medically practical, police said.
